The house is located in a busy downtown part of Reykjavík with many services, shops and restaurants within easy reach between the two main shopping streets, Laugavegur and Skólavörðustígur. Nearly four hundred shops are to be found in this part of Reykjavik and nowhere in Iceland will you find a more diverse selection of trade including local original art and designs. Many shops offer a very personal service with owners and designers themselves attending to customers. The story of Michelsen Watchmakers dates back to 1909 when the first Michelsen watchmaker established his propriety business in a small town in Northern Iceland. Ever since, the Michelsen watchmakers’ family history has been closely interwoven with the story of Icelandic trade as one of the leading watch companies in Iceland. Michelsen Watchmakers are reputed for their professionalism and excellent craftsmanship.
Founded in 1998 in Reykjavík, 12 Tónar (12 Tones) Record Shop has been well received by music lovers from the start. The store quickly became a meeting point for musicians such as Björk, Sigur Rós, Múm, and the core of classical composers and performers. On 21 of June, 2013 Gramophone magazine wrote about 12 Tónar, with the title "The best record store in the world?"
