INNOVATION FORUM

The project and the new house itself takes it‘s name, Crossroad House, from a letter of the painter Johannes Kjarval to his mentor and master, Asgrimur Jonsson, from 1953 and fits one of the house‘s purposes of being a place where the public and people from the arts, business and academia share and develop new ideas.

In the tumultuous and challenging times Iceland has faced since the financial crisis in 2008 measures have been taken to encourage innovation with an entrepreneurial spirit. In academia and business it is now important as never before to facilitate the mergence of diverse streams for fruitful co-operation. This is hoped to be achieved in Crossroad House.

The house is intended to be a meeting point for scholars, artists, researchers and students to share with the public programs focused on interdisciplinary work, creative output and innovation. To this end there will be various events on the calendar including seminars, conferences, presentations, concerts and exhibitions. By this it is hoped that this new house with its undeniably important cultural roots and story will pay due hommage to those important artists that once lived there and will in turn serve as a forum for entrepreneurial innovation, for discussions of good ideas and an aid to make them come true.

Crossroad House will seek partnership with many in the field of innovation with emphasis on interdisciplinary work between arts, science and the humanities. Among them are Innovit – Klak, Innovation Center, Iceland and Leonardo/ISAST.
